Calm My Anxious Heart Week 2 Part 2

Good Morning Ladies,
I hope everyone had a fantastic week. This morning I was going over my notes from the book, and I thought I would share with you some of the things that really hit home for me. The stuff in quotations will be from Calm My Anxious Heart by Linda Dillow and I will also have a page number in parenthesis.

"Two women looked through prison bars, One saw mud, the other saw stars" (29).
I have always considered myself a pretty optimistic person, but this past week I have caught myself  looking at the mud a lot more than I thought I did. I have to ask myself why would I do that? I did it because it was my choice to look at my situation instead of looking at God and knowing that He is the blessed controller and my source for peace. I think this will be a lifelong journey, but as long as I continue to realize that my peace really does come from God, and not from me trying to control my circumstances.

On page 32 she quotes Proverbs 23:7, " As he thinketh in his heart, so is he" (KJV).
She states "our thought life determines our contentment!" (32).

This statement is so true in every way. Joel and I have had this conversation a lot.  The things of this world and the people in your life are not responsible for making you or I happy. It is our choice to let our circumstances take over our thought life or to let Gods truth reign in our hearts and minds. A few years back Joel said to me "when we said our vowes we made a commitment and a promise to God not each other that we would love one another in sickness and in health till death do us part.... If we break this commitment we are breaking our commitment to God. If we continue our commitment it is our own responsibility to God, so I (Joel) am going to do my 100% whether or not you do 100% is up to you (me). His statement was a wake-up call to me, and he was sooo right. We decided that day that no matter how we felt (weather or not we thought the other person was doing 25, 50,or 100%) we were going to continue to do our part, and I can honestly say our marriage is 100% better. I praise God every day for that.

Well I hope you ladies have a wonderful day. I know that this book is opening my eyes in a whole new way, and I am so excited to see what God is going to show me next. Don't forget to comment on the pages and encourage one another in Christ Jesus. I love y'all....

Calm My Anxious Heart Week 2 Part 1

Hello Ladies,
This week we are going to read Chapter 2 in our book. Don't forget to do the questions in the back for week two. Before reading chapter 2 go over any notes you have taken for chapter 1. Reflect on what God is showing you and Thank God for the renewal of our minds (Romans 12:2). I know that reading the first chapter God has really opened my heart on how I go about doing things and how He wants us to let Him be in control. Remember He is made perfect in our weaknesses. I pray you all have a blessed day, and there will be more updates during the day and the week, so please make sure to check back. Feel free to post comments about what you have learned, and for encouragement towards one another. I thank God  every day for You ladies. Have a blessed day

Calm My Anxious Heart Week 1 Part 2

Hello Ladies,
This is the first week of our bible study. This week we will read chapter 1. We also had our first meeting at the church today and here is what we talked about.

How to paraphrase a prayer out of scripture.
1. make it personal to you.
here is an example:
Bible Verses Colosians 1:9-12 This is the original verse out of the NASB
"For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and long suffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light."

Here is the paraphrased version:
We ask you Lord, that we may be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that we may walk worthy of You Lord, fully pleasing  You, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of You Lord; strengthened with all might, according to Your glorious power, for all patience and long suffering with joy; giving thanks to You Lord who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light."

We also talked about our prayer closets, I personally do not have a special prayer place yet, so I have a basket that I can tote to the cleanest area of my house during prayer time so that I can be free from distractions.  This is what the Word says about having a prayer closet:

Matthew 6:6 NKJV
"But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly."

If you would like to make a prayer basket here are a few handy tips: Have a Bible and a devotional or book you are studying about Gods word, some Kleenex, a few cough drops, a journal to keep notes, a few pens, a highlighter, tabs or a bookmark to keep your place or mark a spot in your Bible, I like to keep some lotion, and a bottle of water near by. I also heard someone say that they use to do prayer walks because they felt more peaceful outside of the home.

I was listening to a worship video the other day and I heard the singer say when you worship the Lord, Sing your own songs, pray your own prayers, and read the Word for yourself, so you can know Gods truth yourself. I found this to be so true. Each and everyone one of us have a purpose and we are all called according to His will.

I pray you all have a fantastic week and don't forget to post comments on the pages. We are here to encourage one another in Christ Jesus.

This is our first week  of calm my anxious heart. I will have another post later on what we are going over, but now we are going to read chapter 1 and in the back of the book you will see a bible study section fill out this portion. I encourage each and everyone one of us to comment on how this chapter has opened our eyes and / or pulled on our heart strings. I expect that we will learn a great deal in this book not only to help ourselves but others around us. I am going to post some scriptures on this post at the end. Do not forget to check out our face book page here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/groups/InHim2011/
There might be other posts here due to some people do not know how to use blogger and visa-versa. Everything we post here will be linked to the face book page.  Don't forget to add InHim2011@live.com to your contact list also. I know that this is going to be an exciting journey for each and everyone of us as we encourage one another in Christ Jesus.
